Featured Thing: The Mars trilogy

It's a series of novels from the 90s about life on Mars. While the main hook comes from the lovely interpersonal politics, Stanley describes the planet's diverse landscape very vividly and goes into detail explaining the science and equipment involved in the process of colonizing the planet, without becoming boring in the process. It's a great reminder that hard sci-fi exists as a subgenre for reasons other than just attacking other subgenres. You can find the Mars trilogy wherever you get your books, maybe even Soulseek.
